Standard Features
All of the printers offer a wide range of horizontal and vertical dot densities,
operate quietly, and can load an emulation very easily. Other features are
specified in the following sections.
Host Computer Interfaces
The following host computer interface choices are available:
  • Centronics
  • RS-232 serial interface
  • RS-422 serial interface
  • Bi-Tronics
  • Ethernet (optional)
Printer Emulations
The following printer emulations (or protocols) are selectable at the control panel:
   HP PCL-II (the default)
   LP Plus, which consists of:
                                       Printronix P-Series
                                       Epson FX-1050
                                       IBM Proprinter III XL
                                       Code V (optional)
Each emulation provides a different set of configuration menus, control codes, and character sets.
Graphics and Vertical Formatting
Several graphics and vertical formatting features are available:
Built-in graphics generators:
  • IBM Proprinter III XL bit-image graphics
  • Epson FX-1050 dot graphics mode
  • P-Series Plot
  • PCL raster graphics 
Programmable electronic vertical formatting provides rapid vertical paper movement to specified lines for printing repetitive and continuous forms. You can choose from the following methods:
  • Vertical tabbing in Proprinter III XL and Epson FX emulation modes
  • Electronic Vertical Format Unit (EVFU) in P-Series emulation mode
  •  PCL vertical forms control (VFC)
Built-in Diagnostic Tools
The following diagnostic tools are provided with the printer:
  • Comprehensive diagnostic self-tests permanently stored in the printer
  • Configuration printout
  • Data stream hex code printout
  • Symbol set printout

Printer Evolution The following models have been added to the LP Series:
•  LP 500 (Model C3201C)
•  LPQ 500 (Model C3202C)
•  LPQ 1000 (Model C3204C)
•  LPQ 1500 (Model C3205C / C5640C)
These "C" model printers have a redesigned shuttle frame assembly and
hammer bank which are not compatible with earlier models. These models
also must use the CMX 040 controller board, which has a 40 MHz clock
speed for the Data Controller unit. (The CMX 040 controller board can be
installed in earlier model LP printers, but must be used in the new models.)
Printing speed is determined by the interaction of many variables. The speeds listed in the table above are the highest speeds attainable under certain conditions. For more information about printing speeds, refer to the section entitled "Printing Rates" in Appendix B.
The microprocessor of the Data Controller unit on the CMX controller board runs at 25 MHz or 40 MHz, depending on printer model. This means there are two kinds of CMX controller board for these printers, used as indicated in the table above. The 40 MHz controller board, however, is backwards compatible with all models that use the 25 MHz board.
