REFURBISHED 90 days Warranty

The Printek Carriage Shaft O-Ring and Washer, is a repair part for the FormsPro 4600 and the FormsPro 4603 Wide Carriage Dot Matrix Printers.

Warning: DO NOT LUBRICATE THE CARRIAGE BEARINGS. The carriage bearings are made of Teflon material and DO NOT require any type of lubrication. Lubricating these bearings will cause premature failure.

The procedure for replacing the print head carriage, shaft, busing and washers is:

  1. Unplug the power cord.
  2. Remove the print head.
  3. Remove the print head nose shield.
  4. Remove the print head cable (carriage end only).
  5. Remove both side covers and the carriage belt.
  6. Remove the head gap lever and the gap gear.
  7. Before performing the next few steps, note the position of the bronze bushing at the front end of the carriage. Also note that on each end of the shaft there is a flat washer, and on the left end an o-ring and a thin Teflon washer. When performing the next step, be sure not to lose any of these items.
  8. Using a 1/8" Allen wrench, remove the screw from the left end of the shaft, but do not remove the bushing from the side plate. It will be necessary to hold the 5/8" shaft with pliers. The pliers will not harm the shaft.
  9. Use the Allen wrench and pliers to remove the screw at the right end of the shaft.
  10. Remove the shaft and carriage.
  11. Remove the bumper from the left end of the shaft and slide the carriage off the shaft.
  12. If not replacing the shaft, thoroughly clean it with isopropyl alcohol.
  13. If not replacing the shaft and/or O-rings and Teflon washers, or the bushings in the side plates, skip to step 21.
  14. Remove the shaft end spacers from each of the side plate bushings.
  15. If replacing the bronze bushings or their wavy washers and retaining rings, do that at this time.
  16. On the stepped shaft end bushing for the left end of the shaft, place an o-ring on the bushing and then a Teflon washer.
  17. Insert the spacer in the bronze bushing in the left side plate.
  18. Place a Teflon washer and then an o-ring on the spacer.
  19. Place the straight spacer in the bronze bushing in the right end plate. Note that the end with the smaller hole will be toward the shaft.
  20. If not replacing the carriage, wipe any debris from inside the carriage bearings.
  21. Slide the carriage onto the shaft.
  22. Slide the bumper onto the left end of the carriage shaft.
  23. Note that the holes in the ends of the shaft must be positioned toward the bottom of the printer in the next step.
  24. Position the shaft in the printer. Be sure to capture the bronze bushing in the center of the front end of the carriage.
  25. Place a flat washer between the left spacer and the left end of the shaft and install the spacer screw.
  26. Place a flat washer between the right spacer and the right end of the shaft and install the spacer screw.
  27. Using two Allen wrenches, tighten both screws simultaneously. Or, you may use pliers and tighten one at a time.
  28. Reinstall the carriage belt and adjust the belt tension.
  29. Reinstall the print head cable and clamp on the carriage.
  30. Reinstall the nose shield.
  31. Reinstall the print head.
  32. Reinstall the gap gear and lever, and perform the gear position and gap adjustments as instructed.
  33. Reinstall the side covers.
