The Printronix P4280 impact line matrix printer achieves reliable high quality printing while achieving the lowest cost per page output. The P4280 standard emulation, allows you to print sophisticated graphics with its system–to–printer data stream.

Systems Application Architecture (SAA) compatibility.

Merged applications. Each type of data has its own source data and is merged when sent to the printer. You can send a scanned image from one application, a block of text from another, and an image block from a third application.

Composes text and graphics on the page, freeing the central processing unit (CPU) of the host computer for other tasks.

Can print 15 different kinds of bar codes.

P4280 Output Control

There are three print qualities for text that you can use with the P4280 Printer, 1) Near–Letter Quality (NLQ), 2) Data Processing (DP) and 3) Draft.

Other output controls that you can select include:

Emulations for P4280

The P4280 IPDS supports coax and twinax interfaces. With a coax interface, the P4280 IPDS emulates an IBM 4234, Model 007/011 and can also be used in place of 3262 and 3268 printers. With a twinax interface, the printer emulates the IBM 4234, Model 008/012.
Compatible attachments, configuration menus, and programming are unique for each emulation.

Three printer emulations are selectable at the control panel and controlled by software:

1) Printronix P-Series emulation
2) Printronix P-Series XQ emulation
3) Serial Matrix printer emulation (similar to the IBM Graphic Printer, but with more features)
Note: All emulation software, fonts, and character sets are permanently stored in printer Read–Only Memory (ROM).
