The Printek Tractor Shuttle Cable is a repair part for the FormsPro 4603 Wide Carriage Dot Matrix Printer. It is also used on the FormsPro 4000 and the FormsPro 4003, older generations of this printer.

The Tractor Shuttle Cable & Pulley Replacement Procedure covers PN: 90339 Cable and PN: 90340 Pulley:

  1. Unplug the power.
  2. Remove the shuttle motor.
  3. Loosen the three nuts on the shuttle gear plate and allow the cable to go slack.
  4. Move the tractors to approximately the center of their front-to-back travel.
  5. On the right shuttle plate, locate the two screws for the plastic cable clamp.
  6. Loosen the screw closest to the front of the printer one full turn.
  7. Remove the screw closest to the back of the printer.
  8. Remove the screw, lock washer and nut that fasten the eyelets on the ends of the cable to the left shuttle plate.
  9. Remove the cable. This will require unwinding the cable from the drive pulley and pulling the ball on the cable from the hole in the pulley.
  10. If replacing the cable pulleys, replace each of them one at a time so that the different sized mounting spacers do not get mixed up.
  11. Move the tractors to the front of the printer.
  12. On the new cable, identify the end of the cable that is farthest from the ball on the cable, and then tape this end of the cable to the base so that the eyelet is approximately even with pulley F.
  13. Route the cable around pulleys A, B, C and D as indicated by the arrows in the illustration below.
  14. Route the cable under the existing section of cable to the gear/pulley E and make two counterclockwise wraps around the pulley.
  15. Rotate the gear/pulley as necessary until the ball on the cable can be placed in the hole in the side of the pulley.
  16. Place the ball in the pulley hole and add one more counterclockwise wrap around the pulley.
  17. Following the dashed line in the illustration, skip pulley F and route the cable around pulley G.
  18. Align the eyelet on this end of the cable with the one already taped to the base, and tape the end of the cable to the base.
  19. Move the tractors to the rear of the printer.
  20. Put the screw removed earlier through the two eyelets and the rear hole in the shuttle plate. The head of the screw should be on the side of the plate nearest the side of the printer.
  21. Place the lock washer and nut on the screw.
  22. Temporarily apply some tension to the cable and tighten the screw.
  23. On the right shuttle plate, route the cable so that it is resting on the top of the screw in the plastic cable clamp.
  24. Reinstall the rear clamp screw but do not fully tighten it. The cable should be routed below this screw.
  25. Loop the section of cable between E and G around pulley F.
  26. Reinstall the shuttle motor.
  27. Adjust the tension cable.
  28. Adjust the shuttle parallelism.
  29. Check and/or adjust all three tractor positions.
